Core Team

minds & makers is a dynamic and interdisciplinary team of Service Designer with comprehensive experience in the fields of service innovation, human centred design, qualitative research and strategic marketing. 
In the past, we have also worked successfully together at the research centre for Service Design at the Köln International School of Design.

Martin Beyerle (MDes., Dipl-Kfm.)

  • Martin wants to initiate environmentally sustainable development and social change through his own projects and therefore founded minds & makers together with Daniela Hammel in Autumn 2009.

  • Since 2011 Martin is one of the initiator of Social Bar Cologne.

  • He is lecturer at University of Cologne and was guest lecturer at Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd, Design Academy Eindhoven and Köln International School of Design.

  • He worked for 1,5 years as a project leader at the research centre for Service Design with Prof. Birgit Mager at the Köln International School of Design, which helped to deepen his project experience. He developed holistic service concepts for clients in telecommunications, software, banking, and health sectors.

  • In 2007 he helped to build up the novel co-working space and centre for social innovation, 'The Hub, Berlin' as assistant to the management.

  • He graduated in 2005 in Business Studies from the University of Mannheim, with a focus on Corporate Social Responsibility.

  • Martin early recognized the prominent role human centered design can play in future oriented solutions and studied a Master in 'Humanitarian and Sustainable Design' at the Design Academy Eindhoven.

Daniela Hammel (Dipl. Des.)

  • Daniela wants to take on the challenge of working with difficult user groups to develop novel solutions together. Therefore she founded minds & makers in Autumn 2009 together with Martin Beyerle.

  • Since 2011 she is lecturer for Service Design and Social Innovation at University of Cologne and was guest lecturer at Köln International School of Design.

  • She worked as Service Designer for the project 'The LIFE Program' with Participle in London, one of the most influential agencies in the field of Service Design and Social Innovation in Great Britain.

  • In 2008 she was responsible for planning and organisation of the first international Service Design Network Conference in Amsterdam.

  • She Worked for 2,5 years as a project leader in the Research Centre for Service Design with Prof. Birgit Mager at the Köln International School of Design. There she developed holistic service concepts in the fields of commerce, gastronomy, banking and health.

  • Daniela graduated in 2006 in Service Design from Köln International School of Design, and belongs to a small circle of the few graduates in Service Design in Germany.

Jan Schröder (Dipl. Des.)

  • Jan wants to fuel change through combining a participative way of working with a playful approach. Therefore he expanded the team as equal partner with his competences in May 2010.

  • He was lecturer for Service Design and Social Innovation at University of Cologne.

  • He worked for 1,5 years in the Concept Development Team of Vodafone specialising in the area of User Experience. During this time he looked intensively into Social Media and Mobile as well as Internet Services. Jan led projects and developed concepts in the area of Location Based Services, Augmented Reality and Social Network Services.

  • He worked for 3 month as project leader in the Research Centre for Service Design with Prof. Birgit Mager at the Köln International School of Design.

  • At IDEO in munich he recognised the meaning and methods of human centered design during an internship.

  • Jan graduated in 2008 in Service Design and Product Design from Köln International School of Design.
